Gateshead College Moves to New Main Site – Baltic Campus
New Travel Plan, New Bus Service, New Everything!
Gateshead College has been busy over the last four years constructing and relocating to 4 new purpose built buildings:
• Academy for Sport, at Gateshead International Stadium
• Automotive Centre of Excellence, Team Valley
• Baltic Campus, Baltic Quays
• Construction and Vocational Learning Centre, Team Valley
Each site required a Travel Plan as a Condition of Planning. The Workplace Travel Plan Company has produced each of these, and has also managed the College’s Travel Plan Steering Group, together with the Sub Groups responsible for each location.
The move to Baltic Campus, a prestigious site on Gateshead Quayside, will be completed at the end of February 2008. The Steering Group has ensured the following are all in place:
- A comprehensive Travel Guide, produced in partnership with Nexus, together with travel information on the College’s website
- “The Loop” bus service (a circular route, with buses in both directions) which serves all sites. This new bus service, in partnership with Go North East, ensures College locations are well served by public transport. The buses on the route display the College’s name on their livery
- Sign posting for pedestrians and car drivers to the Baltic Campus.
Through the Steering Group, Travel Plans has been embedded into the working culture of the College. Each site has benefited from the experience of the others. The fourth new building, the Construction and Vocational Learning Centre, will be occupied in Spring 2008.
